Well, I’ve been remiss with regards to my blogging lately. It’s been a bit crazy around here and I had some tough personal news at the beginning of the week. Everything will be fine, but it completely distracted me from both writing and blogging. I’ll upload my last assignment and am now working on the next assignment that is due for Monday.
Other than that, life is mostly focused on spring cleaning right now. There is always more cleaning than time, but this weekend the windows are open and the cleaning solutions are out. Watch out June Cleaver–if you are too young to recognize the reference, google it!
Oh my this past week has been busy! I was travelling for work most of the week and my spare time was focused on finishing the reading for my course. Tonight and tomorrow I’ll be working on my next assignment. Stay tuned. Tomorrow I’ll post my first assignment, along with the feedback I received. Feel free to join the critique and leave your own comments.
Overall, it went much better than expected. The professor was very kind and the other writers in the workshop seem to be nice. It’s an odd feeling to post my work. Letting them critique my writing is like standing on stage naked. It’s not a comfortable feeling, but I really value the feedback I’m getting. It will improve my writing.
By the way, those little cuties in the picture are my daughters. They keep me very busy too, but that’s another story…
We’ll, I’ve gone and done it! Today is the first day of my Fundamentals of Fiction writing workshop. I’ve read the chapters and the lecture. Now I must get down to writing. Yikes!
I’m glad to be working with an instructor that has been published extensively and who has a soft spot for literary fiction and short stories. This should be fun! Wish me luck!
My tastes in music are eclectic. I enjoy almost every style of music with the possible exceptions of traditional country and gangsta rap. I’m into everything from Lady Gaga to L’il Ed and the Blues Imperials. In between you’ll find Karrin Allyson, The Arcade Fire, Nickleback and an embarrassing amount of 80′s music. However, I have a specific soft spot for two types of music–Celtic Folk and Classical. Likely because this is what I listen to when I’m in a mood to write.
I thought I’d share this particular piece of Classical music with you. The first time I was ever honestly moved to tears by a piece of music, it was by this. It is by far, my favorite.
I suggest that you listen to it while you are alone, in a quiet place and with your eyes closed. Enjoy.
I’m happy to say that I figured out how to move my blog to a new platform this weekend. I sorted out (what I think to be) a relatively clever domain name and then wrangled WordPress into submission. I even created and installed my own favicon. Note the stack of books beside the domain name. Yes, yes…I am a geek.
Overall, I am actually very impressed with how well WP works for me and am pleased to have gotten my first book review online. That’s enough for one day.
For tonight, I will celebrate work well done. Tomorrow I post…
Random musings about writing fiction, reading fiction and living (in reality).
"The older we get, the more...you realize there's a whole range of things you will never do, of things and people you will never be. As life becomes more and more limiting, there is something wonderful about being able to get inside the skin of people unlike yourself." ~Lee Smith
